About us
Kahurangi Estate is a family owned boutique vineyard dedicated to producing hand-made premium quality wines in a truly sustainable manner. Our focus is on aromatic grape varieties that respond to the Nelson region's cool climate conditions.
The vineyard was planted in 1973 and has the oldest commercial Riesling vines in the South Island. We purchased the existing vineyard in 1998, developing the Kahurangi brand and becoming one of the fastest growing wineries in New Zealand.
Climate
Nelson benefits from a sunny maritime climate and as a region claims the highest sunshine hours in New Zealand. Our climate allows us to specialise in aromatic grape varietes that respond to "cool climate" conditions. Our grape varieties consist of Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Gerwurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Montepulciano.

We continue to be involved in all aspects of the Vineyard, Winemaking and Marketing with our daughter Samantha, joining the family business in 2008.
We are proud to stand together with our Kahurangi Team and present wines to you that reflect the true flavours and beauty of the Nelson region.
Location
The vineyard and winery are situated in the historic village of Upper Moutere, 33kms from the city of Nelson. The gravel threaded clay soils of Upper Moutere are known for producing wines of richness and texture.
