Winemakers Notes

About - We all have that one serious wine loving friend. You know, the one who over complicates wine, the one who’s tasted their way through Bordeaux, the one who thinks they are ‘cultured’, the one who’s cellar is brim full of insanely expensive Pinot. Well they probably wouldn’t fit in here with the wines from A Good Dirt. Here we solely believe in good time wines made with an inquisitive nature yet delivering heavily on accessibility and quality. We lower that serious cloak, and offer a range of session-able wines for any occasion, anywhere-anytime. A Good Dirt is a tip of the hat to traditionalism, but with eyes firmly looking to enhancing the good times.

On a slightly more serious note: Like anything in life, to thrive you need to start with solid foundations. Our wines are produced by vineyards that flourish, growing in the soils of our special patches of ‘A Good Dirt’.  - A Good Dirt Wines.

Vintage Conditions - A mild, December and January with cool nights saw ideal conditions  prevail towards the end of the 2017 growing season.  The result was a measured pace of ripening which ensured the balanced development of sugar and flavours in the fruit  along with the retention of natural grape acid before some later season warmth allowed some real fruit presence to develop.

Colour: Deep, dark ruby.

Bouquet: Fragrant aromas of upfront dark plum fruit, sit alongside classic varietal markers of green pepper, eucalypt and cedar wood

Palate: : Fresh soft dark plum and blueberry fruit is supported by a focused, fresh  line of travel through the palate. The dark fruit holds firm, deep and long before just a hint of spice and some subtle tannin grip shows late working around the edges, providing another layer and rounding out the wine.

Cellaring: Drink to 2025
