About - Since 1930, Mouton Cadet has been renowned for its exacting standards and audacity. The fruit of generous Nature and the work of human hands, the result of the encounter between an exceptional terrior and the passion of Baron Philippe de Rothschild (1902-1988), over the years Mouton Cadet has consistently combined quality, prestige and know-how in an expressive, seductive way. Today, Mouton Cadet has become the worldwide reference for Bordeaux Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée wines.

Mouton Cadet Rouge is made from rigorously selected wines and grapes form partner winegrowers in the main appellation of Bordeaux and the Côtes. Baron Philippe de Rothschild's winemakers monitor the winegrowers anad advise on vineyard practises in order to meet the exacting quality standards of Mouton Cadet.

Appellation - Situated 40km south-east of Bordeaux, the famous Sauternes appellation is famous throughout the world for its sweet wines

Terroir-  In the Autumn the river Ciron genearates a morning mist that favours the development of Botrytis Cinerea. A fungus the famous "Noble Rot". Warm and sunny afternoons provide the temeperature differential equally necessary to ensure that the grapes reach full potential.

Vintage Conditions

Grape Varieties -  90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc

Fermentation/maturation - The grapes rich in sugar, are picked by hand in successive sweeps trhough the vineyard as the berries reach the right degree of maturity. The grapes are slowly and lightly crushed and the must is left to settle, then fermentation takes place over a number of days. The fermentis halted before completion so that a not all the sugar is transformed into alcohol, giving the wine a high reseual sugar content and the unique taste of a great sweet wine

Tasting Notes

Hue An attractive buttercup yellow

Nose - The nose opens on citrus notes (lemon-peel) mingled with aromas of candied fruit such as pineapple and mango, while remaining fresh and even floral, with a hint of verbena

Palate - From a dense and round wine with flavours of honey, bitter orange and candied fruit (pear and quince) mingle on the palate, building to a fresh and distinctly mineral finish. A very harmonious and fresh wine, with crisp fruit.
